Ergonomic Technology Center -- (ErgoCenter)
Ergonomics—the science of fitting the workplace to the worker—involves reducing exposures to physical trauma, redesigning tools and workstations, and preventing and treating Cumulative Trauma Disorders (CTDs), such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Tendonitis.
The Ergonomic Technology Center of Connecticut (ErgoCenter) is a joint venture of Connecticut industry, labor, the State government, and the University of Connecticut Health Center. The ErgoCenter approach involves risk reduction through the redesign of job content and work organization, and the correction of awkward postures and positions.
The combination of sciences, treatment, and education involves specific programs to aid Connecticut manufacturers in the development and evaluation of tools and training of health and safety personnel. The organization of the ErgoCenter, university-based, with a business services orientation, performs a function presently absent in the State: bridging the gap between the ongoing development of ergonomic knowledge and the practical needs of industry and workers.
The ErgoCenter is a member of the Association of Occupational & Environmental Health Clinics (AOEC).
